TEAMs Cable Ship has set sail - 450kms covered...

Great news. The TEAMs cable ship - under contract with Alcatel-Lucent set sail from Fujairah, UAE on Thursday last week. As of today it has covered 450 kilometres at a rate of approximately 150 kilometres a day.

We are all looking forward to the cable finally landing in Mombasa - and hope and pray that the Somali pirates don't interfere with the progress of this noble venture.

So who will be first to connect lit fibre to downtown Nairobi? TEAMs or Seacom?

Hi guys, as you may (or may not) know - I am involved in the TEAMS shareholding. This is 'insider' information. Last week a few of us shareholders were in Fujairah at the ship launch. Check the Kenyan news tomorrow/day after for the actual PR regarding this...

Steve, I can't say who will be 'first' - both cable systems have mentioned June as the RFCS month. Right now capacity holders in TEAMs (myself included) as well as the SEACOM guys are hectically working on their backhaul systems to ensure inland distribution... Only time will tell who lights up to Nairobi first...

Brian,

it was nice meeting you in Cairo.
Well am still wondering what Plans are set forth for the Cable services to reach Uganda. Any insiders involved from UG side which would make the process move fast that side.
